📖 Part 1: Theory Subjects
- Introduction to Healthcare Systems: Exploring hospital structures, understanding standard medical terminology, and learning the functions of various hospital departments (IPD, OPD, ICU).
- Role of a GDA: Studying the exact duties, legal boundaries, code of conduct, and professional responsibilities of a bedside assistant.
- Basic Human Anatomy & Physiology: Gaining foundational knowledge of major human body organs and skeletal, circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems.
- Infection Control & Waste Disposal: Mastering biomedical waste management protocols, color-coded dustbins, and sterilization processes.
- Patient Nutrition & Hydration: Learning basic diet planning, calculating fluid intake/output, and dietary needs for specific illnesses.
- Medical Ethics & Patient Rights: Understanding patient confidentiality, data privacy, informed consent, and cultural sensitivity.
🧪 Part 2: Practical & Skill Lab Training
- Daily Patient Care & Hygiene: Hands-on practice for bed bathing, oral care, hair grooming, and dressing assistance.
- Hospital Bed Making: Mastering the techniques for making occupied, unoccupied, surgical, and emergency beds.
- Monitoring Vital Signs: Learning to correctly use devices to measure blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, and respiration rate.
- Patient Movement & Mechanics: Practicing safe lifting, turning bedridden patients to prevent bedsores, and transferring individuals to wheelchairs or stretchers.
- Emergency Response & First Aid: Practical drills for Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and managing burns, choking, or fainting.
Equipment Handling: Learning the safe operation of oxygen cylinders, suction apparatus, and saline stands.
💼 Part 3: Soft Skills & Interpersonal Training
- Healthcare Communication: Learning clear verbal reporting to doctors/nurses and barrier-free, empathetic interaction with patients.
- Record Keeping: Practical training on filling out daily patient charts, recording vitals, and updating incident logs.
🏥 Part 4: On-the-Job Training (OJT) / Internship
- Clinical Rotations: Usually spanning 2 to 3 months, this phase places students directly into hospital wards, nursing homes, or critical care facilities.
- Live Practice: Students assist real patients with daily tasks, shadow senior nursing staff, and handle actual hospital emergencies under direct supervision.
